Yoga Tools for Balancing Your Mood: Mudras, Mantras, and Pranayama

Join Carol Collins from 2:00 – 5:00pm on Sunday, February 1st for Yoga Tools for Balancing Your Mood at our Dupont studio.

How can we practice and teach yoga tools such as mudras, mantras, and pranayama in a way that is both safe for varied moods and is in line with what we need on any particular day, season, or time of day?

Learn about the Gunas and how they are related to which pranayama techniques to use in a class. Just as the early yogis or sramanas did in ancient India we will then experiment and observe the effects of pranayama and mudras (the placing our fingers in a certain way) on our mood, our body and our mind state.

We will also learn and practice combining the mudras with universal vocal tones. Vocal tones or mantras can be both stimulating and grounding. We will explore the science behind what we know about the effects of mantra on the nervous system. We will learn and practice a Chakra Clearing Meditation and observe its effects on our system.

Some pranayama teachniques we will practice: “Breath of Joy”, “Bellows Breath”, and “Bee Breath” “Kapalabati” or “skull shining breath.” This presentation will be participatory, experimental, rejuvenating, and calming. Bring your mediation cushion, a journal, and an open and inquisitive mind.
