Favorite part of teaching yoga?
My favorite part of teaching yoga is helping to facilitate the amazing transformative experience yoga offers to us all. Often students come to class tired or stressed out from a long day at work and then throughout the class they begin to breathe deeply, get out of the head and into the body, and by the end they look visibly renewed and relaxed. It’s very humbling to witness this change and I feel privileged to play a role in it.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the country, in the very small town of Dunbarton, deep in the woods of beautiful New Hampshire.
The House of the Spirits by Isabelle Allende
This might be embarrassing to admit, but I love the movie Steel Magnolias – it’s a classic in my book and always makes me cry.
My favorite food is pad thai – although I have to limit the number of times I allow myself to eat it, as I cannot help but eat the whole plate in one sitting – it’s so delicious!
“The sun shines not on us but in us. The rivers flow not past, but through us, thrilling, tingling, vibrating every fiber and cell of the substance of our bodies, making them glide and sing. The trees wave and the flowers bloom in our bodies as well as our souls, and every bird song, wind song, and tremendous storm song of the rocks in the heart of the mountains is our song, our very own, and sings our love.” -John Muir
Dream vacation or favorite vacation you’ve ever been on?
I traveled in the Philippines back in 2005 and loved it. It’s such a beautiful country, with incredibly friendly people, amazing fresh fruit, and endless islands and sunsets. I would love to go back with my husband who is half Filipino!
Favorite yoga pose and why?
My favorite yoga pose is definitely pigeon. I love the transition from the heated practice to the more restorative poses. It’s my favorite way to release and let go.
I love the Fourth of July; it’s summertime and all my family gathers together for a big cookout at the lake. And July is my birthday month, so the fourth just sets the celebratory tone for the month!
