Favorite part of yoga?

It tricks this achy 33-years old body to think its 23 again.

Where did you grow up?

I’m grew up in a small Dutch town (9000 inhabitants) close to the German border. Picture lots of small dairy farms, green field and people riding their bikes everywhere.

Favorite book?

I don’t have one in particular. When I was a child, I devoured books from Astrid Lindgren and Roald Dahl. They were my favorite authors throughout my childhood, and made me believe in magic.

Favorite food?

Surinam ‘Pom’. This is an oven dish with chicken and cassava root. Its a complicated recipe, but extremely yummy. I can’t make it here as I can’t find the cassava root – but whomever can find it for me, I promise to make some!

Favorite quote?

When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life.  When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up.  I wrote down ‘happy’.  They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

–John Lennon

Favorite restaurant in DC/VA/MD?

This changes every so often, but the Blue Duck Tavern is high on my list, and lately I have been hitting Barcelona quite a bit as their wine list is off the charts. Try the Serro Anon Rioja, it’s like tasting a dusty cellar. And… this is a good thing.

Dream vacation or favorite vacation you’ve ever been on?

My favorite vacay was the time that we went for a road trip after our second wedding in Brazil – with a bunch of family and friends. We took the beach road from Sao Paulo to Rio de Janeiro and stopped at Ilha Grande – which is an island off the coast where no cars are allowed. A true piece of paradise on Earth, and we shared tons of belly laughs and made a whole lot of moments to remember with the people we love.

Favorite yoga pose and why?

Currently I am playing with Tripod. I love playing with poses that scare me a little, and this is one of them.

Three people, living or deceased, who you’d invite to the same dinner party?

My Dad, my Mom and my Brother. I do not see them enough and wish I had more dinner parties with them. Life’s too short to miss out on good times with the people that matter most!

If you could take a yoga class from any teacher in the world (living or dead), who would it be?

Ryan Gosling. Not that he’s a teacher, but I’m sure I would do everything he tells me to.

If you could be one animal, what would you be and why?

I would wanna be Louis the Pug or Polo the pup, cuz’ from what I can see & hear it looks like their life is gooooood….
