Favorite yoga pose:
These days my favorite part of a yoga class is any standing balance pose since it is a physical reminder of how my body, mind and spirit are intertwined and that when things are in sync, I can fly effortlessly and joyfully. A beautiful lesson on and off the mat.
Where did I grow up:
I haven’t stopped growing up, so let me tell you about the last time I felt I had grown in every dimension — in my yoga training at Tranquil Space. I felt like I had grown so much stronger physically and emotionally. I grew into my place as a teacher. I looked around and I had a very large and incredibly sweet yoga family. I would encourage everyone to give yourself the gift of TT1 and see how much you grow!
Here’s a couple of things people don’t know about me:
I can sing the first verse of the Bengali National Anthem. I was born in Nashville, TN and spent every summer of my formative years in Harlan County Kentucky, where my Mom’s parents lived. As a result, I make Bourbon Balls for Christmas and Kentucky Derby Day, and no you can’t have the recipe. I love the paintings of Alice Neel. I will be 50 years old in December. In addition to First Book, where I work, one of my favorite nonprofits is Friendship Place. I celebrate Friday mornings by dancing to funk before, during and after my shower and my song obsession of the last few Fridays is Stevie Wonder’s You Haven’t Done Nothin’.
