Please join me on Sunday for a special Yoga class to support DC AIDS Walk. ALL of the funds raised go to Whitman-Walker Health and important community based health center, that provides free and low cost health care. Funds raised will go to support services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Some of these services include medical care, prescription assistance, mental health care, addictions treatment, psycho-education, medical adherence, legal assistance, outreach, free testing for HIV, and HIV day treatment (where I work). See the picture of me leading art therapy…http://www.whitman-walker.org/page.aspx?pid=376
This year many more young people, especially teenagers and young adults are getting infected with the virus. Also, many of our long-time survivors of HIV are facing serious health issues never anticipated, like early-onset dementia, cancer, chronic heart disease, renal failure, and many other medical complications. Treatment works, because I have a few clients who have been HIV+ since 1980, but treatment also comes at a cost and many associated side-effects. While the disease has receded from much of the national media, it still impacts people at an epidemic level here in Washington, D.C.
By donating to the AIDS Walk, you help support many people who receive care at Whitman-Walker Health. Your contribution will go to support HIV+ individuals receive life-saving services, that support the whole person with dignity and accountability. Please sign up for this class, walk on October 27th, or donate here: http://www.kintera.org/faf/donorReg/donorPledge.asp?ievent=1010031&lis=1&kntae1010031=AF03D14513EE49249232B217CC053A7D&supId=336086023
With Gratitude, Love and Light!
