Team Player of the month: Laura Brown

Favorite part of yoga?
I look forward to my Sunday morning SA shift at Tranquil Space Arlington every week. The yummy smell never gets old (I am an amber and rose incense addict now) – and it’s nice to catch up with all the Sunday regulars. It sets the tone for a consistently relaxing and enjoyable day. I also love how strong yoga makes me feel.

Where did you grow up?
I moved around a lot when I was little, but I mainly grew up in Indianapolis, IN (middle and high school) and Buffalo, NY (early years, college and beyond). I’ve lived in Arlington, VA for the past 12 years though…
What are your top 3 hobbies?
Hiking, spending way too much time making playlists on I-tunes while my needy, but sweet black cat, Galaxy, climbs all over my lap/the keyboard, and as a new home-owner, I have recently started to explore gardening – which has so far only consisted of me thinking about ordering a Gardening for Dummies book online.

Favorite book?
I can’t possibly pick just one. I love reading almost anything, as long as I like the author’s voice. I like Children’s lit – recently finished The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (about a boy whose parents were murdered, and then he was raised by ghosts in a graveyard).  I also love reading books by writers about the craft of writing. My fave is Steven King’s, On Writing

Favorite movie?

Favorites that I can (and have) watch(ed) over and over and over again: Star Wars (4, 5 & 6), Lord of the Rings Trilogy, When Harry Met Sally and LA Story.

Favorite quote?
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” And I also love, “Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.” – Gandalf, from The Lord of the Rings

Favorite restaurant in DC/VA/MD?
Thai Square on Columbia Pike

Favorite yoga pose and why?
Hands down, Savasana. (Or I guess ‘hands up’ actually? harhar.) In fact I think there should be an entire class dedicated to Savasana. It is where I feel all the positive physical effects of my practice melt into my mind and one of the only times of the day when I feel truly peaceful, meditative and quiet.

Favorite holiday?
Thanksgiving – which also happens to be my birthday (every five years to be exact), but the main reason is that I love spending time with family (oh– and the eating part ain’t so bad either!)
