A note from Sunday’s teacher, Lauren Dunn:
Volunteering was always one of those things that I knew I should do, but always found an excuse not to do. And trust me, the excuses were easy to come by… ‘ooooh I have to work late,’ ‘I have dinner plans,’ ‘I’m already too busy.’
But when the requirements to finish my 200-hour yoga teacher training at Tranquil Space included a few hours of Karma Yoga, I decided to use this as an opportunity to make a change in my ‘busy’ life. So I did a little research and picked an organization that would resonate with me. That’s when I found Calvary Women’s Services
This is a group dedicated to serving women in need right here in our own city. They started nearly 30 years ago as a small emergency shelter in the basement of a church. Since then, they’ve grown to be able to offer not just housing, but crucial services like making sure women have a nutritious meal, educational support, addiction recovery and employment services.
It’s been just over a year since I started volunteering at Calvary. My work there is pretty simple… answering phones, helping out the ladies if they need a hand with something, even just getting the door. But sometimes I think the most important part of volunteering, is simply having a supportive smile. It’s not enough to just show up. You need to be there with intention.
Please join me this Sunday and support Calvary with February’s Second Sunday Karma Yoga class at 3:30pm.
