This past weekend, one of our TSA members, Kathy Kerr, sent us the following birthday reflection via email. We’re so happy to be able to share her “yoga success story” and all of the wonderful ways that her practice has changed her life over the past year…
November 12, 2011
Today is my birthday! I am 58 years old. My body has gone through so many amazing life changes–birth, babies, breastfeeding, motherhood, menopause. A year ago I resigned myself to being a little stiff, a little overweight, a little “old.” I bought my son a nice yoga mat for Christmas so I got one for myself too. I imagined yoga classes would be boring–holding poses for a long time. But since I had that nice mat, I decided to try a TS newbie class on January 22.
Jodi is a wonderful teacher. It was not boring! But it was all so uncomfortable. My wrists! My knees! My balance! My stamina! But after taking advantage of the newbie week I was amazed that I had effortlessly lost a couple of troublesome pounds. I tried the one month class pass. I became more flexible. My hips felt “rolly.” My posture improved. My inner organs were massaged. I felt empowered. My heart expanded. I found wonderful changes in my meditation. (I have practiced Transcendental Meditation for 35 years.)
I had no idea yoga would be such a great physical workout. I recently hiked in Colorado mountains and was not sore the next day. My weight is still normalizing, down at least 10 lbs, because I have an intuitive desire to eat less and to eat better. Recent blood work shows my cholesterol etc. has much improved. My mother, age 87, lives with us. I especially appreciate yoga as part of caring for myself so that I can care for her.
I am a year older today, but actually feel younger than I did a year ago. I am truly grateful to be a TS member. I have enjoyed and benefited from every class I have been to. Thank you so much to all of the wonderful teachers and caring staff at Tranquil Space in Arlington.
Soundtrack: My Back Pages by Bob Dylan, “Ah but I was so much older then. I’m younger than that now.”
Thank you for sharing your story with us, Kathy! And happy belated birthday from the entire TS team
Do *YOU* have a yoga or Tranquil Space story that you want to share? We’d love to read it and/or share it with the cOMmunity!
