Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.
Welcome to March at Tranquil Space. SO looking forward to the daffodils shining through the barren earth and flowering trees that are part of March in DC – a truly tranquil sight to behold!
After posting on a friend’s Facebook wall recently, she sent me the above quote as a thank you. This quote has stuck with me and became my own Facebook status yesterday. What a beautiful reminder of the small simple touches and how profound they can be to another being.
While leading last week’s Tranquil Teens program for a group of amazing young women in residential care, I see how this quote truly applies to all scenarios. Leading these teens through yoga, creativity, and leadership curriculum can be a truly transformative experience for girls who have not been shown these tools or kind gestures in their past.
The above photo is a snapshot of my hOMe altar where flowers, meditation cushions, incense, candles, and statues of favorite gods and goddesses from India accompany me during quiet mOMents. By beginning our day with a dose of mindfulness or simply inserting it into our lifestyle as we can, we are better able to practice the kindness Leo speaks to above.
Similar to the reminder to put on your own oxygen mask before assisting another, the same applies to everyday tranquility. Begin within. Nourish your body with greens. Take time for yoga and meditation. Design a life that feels authentically you. Do one thing every day that scares you. Sip tea. Soak in the tub. Get plenty of sleep to replenish.
When you are full of necessary self-care, you are better able to practice the simple touches Leo speaks to above. Play with this today. Encourage a loved one. Sincerely compliment a stranger. Give a hug. Thank someone for being in your life. Spend time petting your cat or dog. Show another being that you truly care. These small gestures have the potential to change another’s day, and even a life.
What a powerful responsibility. And it all begins within. Let your life leave a legacy of kindness and simple touches. Happy, happy March.
