welcome to july and a brief relief from summer’s sultry weather. i hope you have lots of tranquility planned over the holiday weekend.
yesterday was my 37th birthday. my how time flies. i can recall the excitement i had as a young girl awaiting the homemade strawberry cake to come out of the oven. my favorite part: adding the sprinkles on top. this is a great metaphor for life.
a few years ago a colleague encouraged me to use my birthday for svadyaya (reflection) by listing highlights that transpired over the past year and what i hoped to see for myself by my birthday the following year. i’ve followed it religiously since and wanted to share a snippet of my recent journal writing at a cafe:

my birthday started with a 1.5 hour manager meeting complete with scones and cupcakes (thanks, siobhan!) and included my very first yoga class in 90 days (but, who’s counting?). it felt divine to be back on the mat. truly like coming hOMe. to top off the day i headed to the strathmore to bask in music, belly laughs, and friends.
as i bring this month’s muse to a close, i wanted to encourage you to explore a way to find sprinkles on top. we’re halfway through the year and 2010 continues to be full of possibility. why not indulge it with dashes of tranquility? a few ideas: savor summer fruits, visit an animal sanctuary, dabble in restorative yoga, browse your local farmer’s market, volunteer, muse in your journal, start an etsy store, plant an herb garden and add fresh mint to your h2o, take a nap.
