welcome to december at tranquil space.
the white pine garland and balsam fir wreath are hung, silver and white doves cover our living tree set to greet you at the front door, and colorful cabbage have been planted to replace our fall mums. we’re excited to share this special time of the year with our yogis.
among the sparkle, scent of pine, and gift giving, it’s the perfect time of the year to practice svadyaya (self-study). here are a few tips for staying tranquil by practicing your yoga off the mat:
1. indulge in yin yoga. this sacred, slow practice is a delight for calming the spirit and opening the body. join danielle on tuesday nights and saturdays for this yummy practice.
2. give mindfully. bake cookies for your office. pack gifts in reusable tote bags. give experiences – opera tickets, yoga classes, spa treatments, museum tickets, lectures. shop locally.
3. indulge in self-care. get a massage. take a mental health day. light a candle. soak in the tub. do legs up the wall. keep up your yoga practice – even if it is one sun salute a day before falling asleep!
4. give back. donate to favorite causes. adopt an orangutan (we adopted dodo). visit a nursing home. support karma yoga events (we have them on the second sunday of each month).
5. rethink tradition. create your own experience this holiday season. shake things up.
6. savor the simple things. shop online to avoid crowds. sip tea. bake pies. simmer apple cider.
7. just be. spend a few moments in meditation. sit still. observe your breath. rest in butterfly pose. nap.
8. indulge your senses. light a cranberry candle. sip egg nog. give hugs. savor holiday treats. smell invigorating peppermint oil. host an intimate dinner fete.
9. reflect on 2009. do you recall your new year’s goals? how did they play out? journal. list hightlights. note lessons learned.
10. get creative. knit a scarf. bead a necklace. create bath salts. upcycle an old tee. bake brownies topped with sprinkles. frame a favorite photograph from recent travels. paint. dance.

my hope is that you can avoid the hustle and bustle of the holidays and instead celebrate tranquility. these ten tips are all about savoring this special time of the year, staying reflective, and indulging your creative spirit. may your 2009 finale shine this month. thank you for celebrating our 10th year with us and allowing us to serve you tranquility. it’s been a delightul year. shine brightly. namaste.
